Ascutney Financial Group - Who We Work With

We are a holistic planning firm, working with folks 55 and older who are facing the increasing challenges of planning for and implementing a successful retirement plan. Since success looks different for everyone, it’s important that we get to know our client’s unique individual situations.

Whether you’re trying to figure out ways to minimize your taxes in retirement, understand how much risk you should be taking in your investment portfolio, wanting to make sure you never run out of money in retirement, or looking for ways to protect yourself and your family’s assets against unforeseen health issues, we are here to help!

We are a family-owned firm, so you won’t be just another account balance with us. Since our focus is working with retirees, we know the challenges you’re facing, and we’ve built a team to handle the risks and threats that retirement may present you with. Our team is made up of professionals who specialize in not only retirement planning strategies, but also taxes and estate planning.

Guy Alderdice Jr, President & Founder

Guy moved to Vermont at the age of two, and found his comfort and home in the Green Mountain state. After graduating from Mount Mansfield Union High School, he went on to attend Champlain College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. A few years later, in the summer of 2000, after successfully passing his Series 7, Series 66 and Life & Health license tests, he began his career in financial services. For the past 22 years, Guy has worked closely with his clients, pairing up his financial expertise with each of their unique needs. For 14 years, he served as an onsite retirement counselor at six hospitals throughout Vermont and New Hampshire, helping employees understand their retirement plan options. His roles also included helping his clients build successful retirement planning strategies, understanding risk management, designing asset allocation models, and knowing the rules and tax implications of various retirement accounts. In July of 2019, Guy founded Ascutney Financial Group. After nearly two decades of working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, he decided to narrow the focus of his practice to retirees, or folks right on the verge of retiring. His process includes spending the necessary time upfront with clients, making sure he gets a clear understanding of where they currently are, and what they are trying to accomplish.

Outside of work, Guy enjoys spending time at home with his family and animals. He married his high school sweetheart Krista in 1998, and they have two teenage sons, Justin and Jase, and their beloved chihuahua, Alba. They also run a small farm of donkeys, goats, and chickens. Guy is an avid ultra runner and mountain lover. He has completed many 100-mile endurance races and has hiked hundreds of miles in the White Mountains in all four seasons. In addition, he enjoys coaching youth basketball and baseball and volunteering for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a nonprofit organization in Vermont.

Krista Alderdice, Vice President

Having a father in the military, Krista’s childhood was spent in locations spanning England, Mississippi, and Georgia, before she landed back in Vermont, where she was born. After graduating from Mt. Mansfield Union High, she went on to Champlain College, earning a degree in Communications/Public Relations. She went on to start her own business, owning and managing an equine boarding facility and riding lesson program for ten years.

She’s married to her high school sweetheart, Guy, and has two amazing sons. As their children grew older, she decided to join the family business, where she handles the day-to-day operations at Ascutney Financial Group. Krista enjoys family time, ultrarunning, exploring the mountains in New England, and caring for her animals on the farm. She is also a columnist for Ultrarunning Magazine, sharing the stories of runners from all over the US. In addition, she volunteers for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, a nonprofit organization in Vermont.

Justin Wicks, CPA

Justin’s background consists of working for two of the Big-4 CPA firms as well as a medium-sized firm in the Burlington area. Looking for a change, Justin worked as a CFO for 5 years before founding the CPA firm. This variety of experience allows Justin to see the various pieces that go into business decisions and not just tax return preparation. Justin’s specialty is working with individuals and businesses to develop a strategic accounting and tax plan, and to work closely with clients to mitigate surprises come tax time.

Justin has a degree in accounting from Champlain College and volunteers for several non-profit organizations. He lives in Morrisville, Vermont with his family.
